Medway Galvanising has been appointed to complete a galvanising and powder coating contract at The Shard, London Bridge Quarter, which when completed in 2012 will be the tallest building in the European Union and 45th tallest in the world.
Designed by Renzo Piano, the 310 metre tall skyscraper is to be clad entirely in glass. As part of its stunning aesthetic, the 87-floor tower features a stunning 15 floor steel-framed spire made by specialist contractor Severfield-Reeve. Medway Galvanising will provide galvanising and powder coating to the steel balconies set to be installed on floors 78 to 87.
Medway Galvanising will use its HGV fleet to collect all the steel from the fabricator’s facility before delivering a one stop service that includes galvanising and powder coating. A customised powder coating finish using Interpon RAL Design 000 9000 30% Matt will be applied, ready for a fast installation where the pieces will be lifted into position and bolted up at height.
When completed in 2012 the Shard will dominate London’s skyline, towering over One Canada Square which has been recognised as the city’s tallest building since 1991. Thanks to Medway Galvanising, the Shard’s top 10 floors and its visual focal point will benefit from a durable and attractive coating that is guaranteed for 25 years.
